Tucked away north of Fairbanks, Chena Hot Springs is a real Alaskan gem. A great weekend getaway, or a week long visit, this place seriously has it all. During our weekend, we tried really hard to make sure we gave ourselves a well rounded Chena experience.

We ended up getting into contact with someone who owned a nearby property called Twin Bears Camp. They allowed our group of friends to come and stay at the cabins for a small fee. The location was dreamy. It made me long of owning my own little cabin in the woods (maybe with heat instead of a small wood heater though! Brr!). I would definitely look into staying here if traveling with a group, it was SO fun!

At Chena Hot Springs, there are quite a few activies to do. We decided to go on a hike to some Yurts, where the resort has Aurora Borealis viewings and other activities during the summer when the trail is open. When we were there, the trail was undergoing construction, but was still accessible by foot. The trail was called the Charley Dome Trail.

The trail was about 5 miles one way and led to a nearly 360 degree view complete with 2 yurts that we REALLY cool to explore. Lots of crazy good views, huckleberries along the trail, and the always memorable company of my love (:

 

After hustling our way back down the mountain, we decided to make a trip to the ever famous Ice Museum. The world’s largest year round ice environment. This was stupendous. I absolutely LOVED this tour. For $15 they give you coats and gloves to wear as you tour the museum and even give you the chance to get a drink at a real life “Ice Bar!”
